BELLEVILLE — A bus monitor claims she was injured when a school bus struck two concrete culverts.

Penelope Ford and Laudell Ford filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the First Student Inc. and driver Rita McCall, alleging McCall breached her duty to operate the school bus in a reasonably safe manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Feb. 12, 2015, Penelope Ford was a passenger and bus monitor on a school bus being driven by McCall when the bus suddenly left the roadway, traveled through a drainage ditch and struck two concrete culverts.

Ford claims she sustained injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and medical care expenses.

The plaintiffs allege McCall failed to timely reduce her speed, failed to keep proper lookout and failed to keep the vehicle on the roadway.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs expended for this action and for such further relief as the court deems just and proper. They are represented by Alan G. Pirtle of Brown & Crouppen PC in St Louis.
