Woman claims fellow motorist was negligent in collision

Car accident 39

BELLEVILLE — A driver is suing fellow motorist Surrendric Smith, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries in connection with a collision.

Marjorie Warden-Vantreece filed a complaint on Sept. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Smith, alleging that the motorist breached his duty to operate his vehicle in a reasonable and safe manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 9, 2014, she was lawfully operating a motor vehicle when suddenly and without warning, the defendant drove across the center line and collided with her vehicle. As a direct and proximate result, she suffered injuries that resulted in pain, disability, weakened and diminished life and medical expenses, she claims. The plaintiff holds Smith responsible because the defendant allegedly carelessly operated his vehicle at a speed greater than reasonable, failed to keep proper lookout and negligently operated his vehicle on the wrong side of the road.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in a sum amount in excess of $50,000, plus her costs for this suit. She is represented by William A Boker, III of Collinsville.
