BELLEVILLE — A pedestrian is suing motorist Garrett M. Roerick, alleging that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Tina Schwellensatti filed a complaint on Sept. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Roerick, alleging that he negligently failed to obey traffic control device.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 29, 2014, she was walking in a crosswalk while crossing a street, while the control device was still signaling to walk, when the defendant, who was driving a motor vehicle, collided violently with her. She sustained severe injuries to her body that resulted in great pain and mental anguish, loss of gainful occupation, disability and medical expenses, she claims. The plaintiff holds Roerick responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to keep proper lookout, failed to yield to pedestrians and failed to stop or reduce speed to avoid accident.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of suit. She is represented by Gregory W. Skinner of Gregory M. Skinner Law in Belleville.
