EDWARDSVILLE — A husband and wife have filed suit against a hospital, healthcare providers and physician after allegedly carelessness during the wife's surgery that led to sepsis.

Paula Mae Quinn and Frederick Quinn filed a complaint Oct. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Multispecialists Ltd., Alton Memorial Hospital, BJC Healthcare ACO LLC and James A. Kliefoth, M.D., alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Paula Mae Quinn during her surgery.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on July 8, 2013, Paula Mae Quinn sustained physical injuries that needed further surgical repairs. The plaintiffs hold Alton Multispecialists Ltd., Alton Memorial Hospital, BJC Healthcare ACO LLC and James A. Kliefoth responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to recognize the signs of infection at the site of the bowel and were generally negligent while performing the surgery on Paula Mae Quinn.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000, court costs and any further relief the  court grants. They are represented by Craig Anthony Schlapprizzi of Donald L. Schlapprizzi P.C. in St. Louis.
