Worker alleges forklift operator's negligence caused injuries

By Michael Abella | Sep 12, 2016

BELLEVILLE — An East St. Louis man is suing a forklift operator, alleging negligence led to the plaintiff sustaining injuries.

Jeron L. Leroy filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against TEK Recycling Inc. of East St. Louis, alleging failure to properly train its employee on the safe operation of a forklift.

According to the complaint, on April 29, Leroy was at the TEK facility working for Perkins Pallets, which leased a portion of the premises at 2001 E. Broadway, East St. Louis, for its business with defendant. While Leroy was working, the suit says, a TEK employee drove a forklift over the plaintiff's right foot and right leg, causing serious and painful injuries to his leg, plus permanent scarring from surgery.

The plaintiff alleges TEK Recycling's employee failed to keep the forklift under proper control, failed to keep proper lookout and negligently failed to warn Leroy.

Leroy seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of suit.

He is represented by attorneys Stephen C. Buser of the Law Office of Stephen C. Buser in Columbia, and by James T. Corrigan of Onder, Shelton, O'Leary & Peterson LLC in St. Louis.
