BELLEVILLE — A St. Clair County woman is suing a motorist, alleging the defendant's negligence caused a crash that injured the plaintiff.
Zaria Ewing filed a lawsuit Aug. 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Melody Helmkamp, alleging the defendant negligently disregarded traffic control devices.
According to the complaint, on June 9, Ewing was driving her motor vehicle westbound on Eastbound Main Street in Belleville when Helmkamp's car struck the side of the plaintiff's vehicle. The suit says the collision caused injuries to Ewing's head and body.
The lawsuit said Ewing experienced pain and suffering, lost wages, impairment and expenses for medical care and treatment. The plaintiff alleges Helmkamp failed to keep proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, operated her vehicle at excessive rate of speed and failed to yield right of way.
Ewing seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of suit. She is represented by attorneys Thomas C. Rich, Kristina D. Cooksey and Michelle M. Rich of Rich, Rich & Cooksey PC in Fairview Heights.
