EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County couple is suing a Glen Carbon health facility, alleging negligence led to the husband having part of his leg amputated.
Carroll R. Sinks and Elizabeth Sinks filed a lawsuit Aug. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Lutheran Senior Services, doing business as Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon and Meridian Village Association, alleging violation of the Nursing Home Care Act.
According to the complaint, during Carroll Sinks' residency at Meridian Village Care Center, he sustained injuries and a deteriorating medical condition that resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee March 31, 2015 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The suit says he sustained pain and suffering, mental anguish, and medical expenses.
The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide necessary care and services, failed to employ sufficient staff, failed to provide proper supervision and failed to properly evaluate and monitor the deteriorating condition of Carroll Sinks.
Carroll and Elizabeth Sinks seek trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and legal costs. They are represented by attorneys Stephen C. Buser of the Law Office of Stephen C. Buser Ltd. in Columbia, and by Terrence V. O'Leary of Bosslet & O'Leary Ltd. in Granite City.
