EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County man is suing a local transportation company, alleging its negligence caused the plaintiff to sustain injuries in a collision.

James J. Hoffman filed a lawsuit Aug. 12, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Madison Country Transit, alleging failure to protect, failure to warn, liability, and negligence in failing to yield to a traffic signal.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 1, 2015, Hoffman was a passenger in a Chevrolet vehicle used by Madison County Transit to transport passengers in Granite City. The suit says the vehicle was traveling east on Niedringhaus Avenue and was attempting to turn at the intersection of Madison Avenue when it struck the vehicle in front of it.

The suit says Hoffman sustained great pain and anguish, lost wages, severe and permanent injuries and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Madison Country Transit failed to keep a proper lookout and accelerated the vehicle without determining if it was safe to do so and failed to obey a traffic signal.

Hoffman seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000 and any other relief the court deems appropriate. He is represented by attorney Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin PC in East Alton.
