EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County woman is suing a motorist, alleging the defendant's negligence caused a crash.

Dawn Silva filed a lawsuit Aug. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Bonnii Chavez, alleging negligence and that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

According to the complaint ,on April 1, Silva was driving eastbound on West Pontoon Road near its intersection with Century Drive in Granite City. At the same time, the suit says, Chavez was traveling northbound on Century Drive and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle, causing Silva to sustain personal injuries and damages to her vehicle.

The lawsuit says Silva has suffered great pain, mental anguish and expenses. The plaintiff alleges Chavez failed to keep her vehicle under sufficient control, failed to keep adequate lookout and negligently and carelessly failed to stop or yield the right of way.

The plaintiff seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorneys Kenneth B. Beljanski and Trent S. West of Brown & Brown LLP in Fairview Heights.
