Social services director accuses nursing home of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 07

EDWARDSVILLE — A Wood River woman is suing a Bethalto a nursing home, alleged she was fired for refusing to engage in illegal activity.

Shannon Westbrook filed a lawsuit Aug. 2 in Madison County Circuit Court against Bethalto Care Center Inc., alleging wrongful termination.

According to the complaint, on March 29, Westbrook was terminated from her employment as director of social services for refusing to sign the minimum data sheets as though she held the position of the certified nursing assistant who evaluated the residents. The suit says Westbrook was not involved in any evaluation of residents.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant retaliated against her and terminated her employment for refusing to sign the minimum data sheets.

Westbrook seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, plus costs of this suit and all relief the court deems proper. She is represented by attorney Christopher J. Petri of Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb LLC in Edwardsville.
