Couple accuses Wood River motorist of causing crash

Car accident 45

EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County couple is suing a Wood River motorist, alleging the defendant's negligence caused a crash that injured the wife.

James Redmond and Jessica Redmond filed a lawsuit July 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against June R. Ottwell, alleging negligence in that the defendant failed to keep her vehicle under proper control.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 17, 2014, the Redmonds were traveling west on Madison at Central in Wood River when Ottwell made a left turn in front of them, causing a collision.

As a result of the crash, the suit says, Jessica Redmond sustained injuries and cost, including medical expenses and disabilities. The plaintiffs allege Ottwell failed to yield right of way, failed to keep proper lookout and carelessly made an improper turn.

The Redmonds seek a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000 for Jessica Redmond and such other relief the court deems reasonable and just. They are represented by attorney Bill T. Walker of Granite City.
