BELLEVILLE — A former police chief is suing the city of Collinsville and city officials, alleging retaliation.

Scott Williams filed a lawsuit July 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the city of Collinsville, Mayor John Miller, councilwoman Cheryl Brombolich and councilman Jeff Stehman, alleging violation of the Illinois Whistleblower Act and the Illinois Gift Ban.

According to the complaint, Williams was subjected to retaliation, harassment and adverse employment actions. The suit says he was unjustly suspended and placed on administrative leave, causing him to suffer severe emotional distress, embarrassment and an impaired employment opportunity.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants retaliated against him and intentionally thwarted and refused the renewal of Williams' employment contract. His last day of work was July 17, 2015, the suit says.

Williams seeks a trial by jury, all damages, pre-judgment interest, attorney' fees and legal costs and such other relief the court deems appropriate. He is represented by attorneys Stephen A. Wigginton and Falon M. Wrigley of Armstrong Teasdale LLP in St. Louis.
