Motorist alleges another driver's negligence caused injuries

Car accident 02

EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County man is suing a motorist, alleging the defendant's negligence led to a car crash that injured the plaintiff.

Victor Alfieri filed a lawsuit June 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Brandon Ratermann and Matthew Ratermann, alleging negligence in operating a motor vehicle at a speed greater than normal.

According to the complaint, on June 27, 2014, Alfieri was a passenger in a motor vehicle traveling through a parking lot at Langdon Court in Madison County. The suit says Brandon Ratermann, also operating a motor vehicle in the same parking lot, was driving at an unsafe speed, which caused his vehicle to strike and collide with the plaintiff's car.

Although the car was driven by Brandon Ratermann, he identified himself as Matthew Ratermann, the complaint says.

The crash, the lawsuit states, caused Alfieri  to sustain serious and permanent injuries to his head, neck, chest, back, spinal column, shoulder and other parts of the body. The plaintiff alleges Brandon Ratermann failed to exercise the highest degree of care, failed to keep proper lookout, failed to yield, failed to maintain control of his vehicle and negligently operated his vehicle while using an electronic communication device.

Alfieri seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, pre-judgment interest, costs of suit and other such relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by attorney Lloyd M. Nolan of Chesterfield, Missouri.
