Couple accuses two motorists in chain reaction crash of negligence

Car accident 34

BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing two motorists, alleging their negligence caused a chain reaction crash that resulted in injuries.

Elizabeth Rakowski and Raymond Rakowski filed a lawsuit June 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Brenda Musgrave and Pamela Mrisch, alleging they failed to obey traffic rules and regulations.

According to the complaint, on July 22, 2014, Elizabeth Rakowski was operating her automobile southbound on Frank Scott Parkway and stopped in traffic at the intersection with state Route 161 in Belleville. The suit says Musgrave's vehicle struck the rear of Mrisch's car, which then hit Rakowksi's vehicle.

As a result of the crash Rakowski sustained pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement, loss of normal life and medical expenses, while Raymond Rakowski suffered loss of service, society, companionship and consortium.

The plaintiffs allege Musgrave and Mrisch failed to keep their vehicles under control, failed to keep a safe distance, failed to use ordinary care and operated their vehicles at excessive rate of speed.

The Ratkowskis seek a trial by jury and judgment against each defendant of more than $50,000. They are represented by attorney Kevin Boyne of Belleville.
