Wood River woman sues driver for allegedly running red light

A Wood River woman is suing over injuries she sustained in a vehicle collision.

Beverly Whitaker filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Cassandra Medling, alleging negligence.

On November 6, 2014, the complaint states, Whitaker was stopped at a traffic signal on westbound Illinois Route 143 at its intersection with Illinois Route 3, when Medling, traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 143, allegedly failed to stop at a red light, entered the intersection, and struck one or more other vehicles, causing her vehicle and/or others to careen into Whitaker's vehicle.

The complaint alleges Medling was negligent in failing to keep her eyes on the road, speeding, failing to stop at a traffic signal, failing to keep proper lookout, and failing to exercise proper control of her vehicle.

As a result, Whitaker claims she suffered injuries to her head, neck, abdomen, and knee, for which she has incurred medical expenses.

Whitaker seeks a judgment below $50,000, plus costs of the suit. She is represented by Allan L. Napp of Schrempf Kelly & Napp, Ltd. in Alton.
