Trucker sued for allegedly causing East St. Louis collision

A man is suing a truck driver and his employers over injuries the man claims he sustained in a vehicle accident in East St. Louis.

Eugene Collins filed a complaint on Sept. 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert Stevenson, Linda McGee, Linda Construction Inc., and Brunt Bros. Transfer Inc., alleging negligence.

On Dec. 31, 2013, the complaint states, Collins was driving his 2011 Ford Ranger pickup westbound on Missouri Avenue, attempting to make a left turn onto 18th Street in East St. Louis, when Stevenson, driving a 2007 International tractor-trailer eastbound on Missouri Avenue at the same intersection, struck Collins' vehicle.

The complaint states that Stevenson was negligent in disobeying a traffic control signal, failing to yield the right-of-way, speeding, driving without necessary permits and license and failing to use ordinary care, among other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, Collins sustained bodily injuries, disability and disfigurement, pain and suffering, loss of income, loss of a normal life and has incurred medical expenses.

At the time of the accident, Stevenson was operating under the scope of his employment with Linda Construction. The tractor-trailer was owned by McGee, and the trailer it was hauling was owned by Brunt Bros. Transfer.

Collins seeks a judgment of more than $50,000 against each defendant, plus costs of the suit. He is represented by Kevin Boyne, PC of Belleville.
