Granite City man sues Olin Brass over alleged retaliatory discharge

A man is suing his former employer for allegedly firing him in retaliation for filing a compensation claim.

Randall Waggoner filed a complaint on July 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against GBC Metals LLC, doing business as Olin Brass in East Alton.

Waggoner was allegedly injured while working for the defendant and endured surgeries in November 2013 and February 2014 to correct his medical condition, the lawsuit states.

He returned to perform light duty at work in May, at which point he filed his claim for workers' compensation. On June 30, 2014, Waggoner claims he was suspended for misconduct. On July 15, he was terminated, allegedly in retaliation for filing a compensation claim, the suit states.

As a result, Waggoner claims he has suffered financial damages. The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Morgan Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office Ltd. in Granite City.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 15-L-910.
