Collinsville woman sues following fireworks injury

A woman and her husband are suing another couple allegedly responsible for lighting a firework that injured the woman's eye while they were visiting the couple's home.

Brooke Blixt and Kurt Blixt filed a complaint on July 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Quinton and Janice Fluss.

On Aug. 4, 2013, the Blixt's allege they were guests at the Fluss home, located at 4 Wheaton Court in Collinsville, according to the complaint. On that day, Quinton Fluss lit a firework that, when ignited, struck Brook Blixt in the left eye, causing her to suffer injury, pain, suffering and medical expenses.

The defendants are accused of negligence for allegedly igniting the firework in a way to injure the plaintiff, to cause it to travel into her face and failing to warn her to move.

Brooke Blixt seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus court costs. Her husband, citing loss of consortium, also seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by William S. Beatty of Beatty and Motil in Glen Carbon.
