A St. Clair County woman claims she lost her leg after a medical center specializing in foot and ankle conditions failed to order appropriate tests and scans.
Cynthia Davidson filed a lawsuit on July 2 in the St. Clair Circuit Court against David L. Kee, and HSHS Medical Group Inc., doing business as Ankle and Foot Center, alleging negligence.
According to the filing, on Aug. 9, 2014, Kee, a licensed podiatrist, failed to "apply the knowledge and use the skill and care ordinarily used by a reasonably well-qualified health care provider" in decisions that led to Davidson losing her left leg. The suit says he was negligent and failed to obtain any arterial studies and didn’t order advanced imaging or MRI or the relevant scans needed.
The lawsuit states Kee failed to obtain a bone biopsy in the presence of a suspected osteomyelitis and this negligence allegedly led to failing to off-load a diabetic neuropathic patient and to list appropriate medications.
The suit says this negligence caused Kee's left leg to be amputated. The plaintiff says she has lost and will continue to lose large sums of money from impairment to her earning capacity.
Davidson seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin in Belleville.
