Gregory Shevlin elected to Illinois Bar Foundation board of directors

Belleville attorney Gregory L. Shevlin has been elected to the board of directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation for a two-year term.

IBF is the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Association and raises funds for the distribution to Illinois nonprofit organizations whose mission it is to provide free legal services to those with limited means.

IBF also provides assistance to lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity.

In 2015, the foundation took on the responsibility of a statewide expansion of the Illinois Justice Corps to provide trained part-time student volunteers to serve as guides in courthouses. This year the foundation will distribute more than $850,000 in funds.

Shevlin is a board member of ISBA, Executive Committee member, member of the American Association of Justice and past president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He also served on the board of the St. Clair County Bar Association and held leadership positions of treasurer and president.

Shevlin is a founding member of the St. Clair County Foundation board of directors and is on the board of the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation. He is a current board member and past president of the East St. Louis Bar Association.

Shevlin is a partner at the Cook Ysursa Bartholomew Brauer & Shevlin law firm in Belleville. He earned his B.A. from Benedictine College in 1985 and his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in 1988.
