Driver accused of ignoring red light, causing collision

A woman is suing the driver she claims ignored a red traffic light and collided with her vehicle while she attempted to turn.

Jaleisha A. Stewart filed a complaint on June 18 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dana Nuspl, of Red Bud.

According to the lawsuit, at 8:44 a.m. Sept. 16, 2014, Stewart was driving south on Route 3 in St. Clair County, while the defendant was heading north on the same road.

At Route 3 and Camp Jackson Road, Stewart claims she was waiting to for a green turn light permitted her to turn east on Camp Jackson. As Stewart initiated the turn on a green light, the lawsuit states, Nuspl continued heading straight at a normal speed and collided with Stewart, causing her injuries, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life, and medical expenses.

The defendant is cited with carelessness and negligence for crashing into Stewart's vehicle, violating a traffic signal and failing to keep a proper lookout and yield the right of way.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Christpher K. Geldmacher of Sauter and Sullivan LLC in St. Louis.
