Roxana woman sued after dog attacked girl

A father and his minor daughter are suing the owner of a dog that allegedly attacked the girl at the defendants' home, where she was visiting.

Joseph Evans, as father to Malaena Edwards, a minor child, filed a lawsuit on June 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Mary Richards, alleging personal injury.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 28, 2013, Edwards was a guest at the defendant's home at 4832 Oak Ridge Ave. in Roxana, when Richards' dog attacked her, biting her head and face. The suit says Richards wasn't restraining the dog "by a leash, gate, cage or muzzle."

As a result, Edwards allegedly sustained puncture wounds, lacerations and abrasions to her head and face, as well as pain and suffering, scarring and medical expenses.

The plaintiffs seek damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and court costs. They are represented by attorney Shaun M. Falvey of Brown & Crouppen in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 15-L-787.
