Womans' estate sues husband over collision

The estate of a woman allegedly killed as a passenger in a collision is suing the decedent's husband, who was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Barbara Felts, as administrator of the estate of Hester L. Green, filed a complaint on June 17 against Q Carriers Inc. of Shakopiee, Minn.; Eddie Johnson, of Des Moines, Iowa; and James E. Green, the decedent's husband.

According to the complaint, on June 18, 2013, James Green was driving his 2012 GMC Canyon east on Interstate 64 in Shakopee with Hester Green in the front passenger seat. At the same time, the plaintiff claims Jackson was driving a 2007 Volvo VNL truck for Q Carriers east on I-64 near milepost 16 just behind the Greens. Johnson allegedly collided with Green, resulting in injuries that contributed Hester Green's death on Aug. 4, 2013.

James Green is cited with driving too slow for the conditions and not keeping his vehicle under control. The other defendants are cited with driving too fast and failing to keep a proper lookout, reduce speed sufficiently, keep the vehicle under control, maintain a reasonable speed and follow at a safe distance.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus any other relief the court deems proper. The plaintiff is represented by Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin Ltd. in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 15-L-349.
