St. Clair Square sued over woman's slip in puddle of water

Vicki Northup claims she was shopping at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights on Dec. 11, 2010, when she fell on a puddle of water, which had been standing in the middle of the floor.

Because of her fall, Northup sustained knee injuries, experienced pain and suffering, endured disability and disfigurement and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Dec. 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

She blames St. Clair Square and its management, ERMC Property Management Company of Illinois, for causing her fall, saying they negligently allowed the large puddle of water to remain on the floor for an extended period of time, invited the public to use the walkway where a large puddle of water lay, failed to inspect the walkway and failed to warn customers of the large puddle of water in the middle of the floor.

In her complaint, Northup is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Aaron G. Weishaar and Andrea J. Wotka of Reinart, Weishaar and Associates in St. Louis will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-656.
