Seaman sues Bulk Services over broken foot

A Madison County seaman claims he broke his foot when he fell while working on a boat in Granite City.

Lawrence Hayden filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court against SCF Lewis and Clark Terminals LLC, individually, and doing business as Bulk Services.

Hayden says in November 2010 he was working as a laborer for Bulk Services, a company that owns and repairs boats on the Mississippi River. While on a boat docked at the defendant's pier in Granite City, Hayden says he fell and broke his left foot.

Hayden accuses the defendant of negligence and of violating the Jones Act for allegedly failing to provide a safe workplace. He asks for an unspecified amount of money in damages and court costs.

Hayden is represented by attorney Morgan Scroggins of Granite City.
