A man has filed suit against the Granite City bar where he claims he was attacked by a patron.
Robert Stokes alleges he was visiting defendant El Torero Sports Bar at 3439 Nameoki Rd. in Granite City on June 1 when Morgan Grulle, who was a fellow patron, physically attacked and battered Stokes without provocation.
Because of the incident, Stokes suffered pain, incurred medical costs, was hindered from attending to his normal affairs and lost wages, according to the complaint filed Nov. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.
El Torero Sports Bar negligently failed to protect its patrons, failed to adequately staff the premises, admitted openly hostile people, failed to monitor the entrances and exits to its bar, failed to properly supervise its premises and failed to train staff on how to detect and monitor disruptive patrons, the suit states.
In his two-count complaint, Stokes is seeing a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
John H. Hustava of Collinsville will be representing him.
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1864.
