Walgreen Co. sued in Madison County over woman's trip at Decatur store

A Madison County woman says she was hurt when she slipped on ice in a Decatur Walgreens parking lot.

Anita Williams filed a lawsuit Nov. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court against Walgreen Company, Cole WG Decatur IL LLC and Leslie Milligan.

Williams claims the parking lot of the Walgreens in the 1300 block of North Water Street was not level and would allow water that drained away from the building to puddle in several areas. Williams says she parked her car in the parking lot in November 2010 and began to walk to the store's entrance.

Williams says the temperature at the time was below freezing, causing an area of black ice to form in the parking lot. She claims she stepped on the ice and fell, hurting her shoulder, arm and back. Williams alleges Milligan, an employee of the store, knew of the icy conditions because salt had been spread on the sidewalk near the front door.

Williams accuses the store and staff of negligence for allegedly allowing the ice to accumulate and endanger customers. She asks for more than $200,000 in damages for medical bills and court fees.

Williams is represented by attorney John C. Webster of Alton.
