Case seeking reimbursement of $14K dismissed; Defendant calls suit 'bogus'

A defendant in a St. Clair County lawsuit called a civil action seeking reimbursement of a loan - and which was dismissed almost two years ago - "bogus."

Vincent Corpus was sued in 2009 by Jeri Rath who claimed he allegedly refused to reimburse her a sum of $14,000.

St. Clair County Circuit Patrick Young dismissed the lawsuit against Corpus on Feb. 12, 2010.

“Upon the request of the plaintiff and through her attorney, this case shall be therefore dismissed without prejudice. All parties bear their own costs,” Young wrote.

Rath’s attorney D. Todd Mathews on Feb. 8, 2010 filed a notice of dismissal.

Corpus claims an online story about the lawsuit has hurt his business and his social life.

"It was a bogus lawsuit," Corpus said in a recent interview. "Jeri Rath basically had no grounds for a lawsuit."

Corpus also said that various claims made by Rath in the lawsuit were false. He said they had a four-day relationship, not a four-month relationship as alleged by Rath.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-610.
