A Missouri woman claims an insurance company refuses to reimburse her for the more than $15,000 in medical costs she incurred following a collision.
Mary A. Allen filed a lawsuit Nov. 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against American Family Mutual Insurance Company.
In her complaint, Allen alleges she rode in a vehicle Lena Stephens was driving west on Lincoln Highway on Sept. 10, 2011. Stephens attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 159 when Adam Elliott, who was driving north on the highway, struck Stephens’s vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Allen suffered injuries to her right shoulder, right and left knees, hips, breast and chest and has endured headaches, the suit states. She has also suffered traumatic arthritis; endured a seriously shocked and impaired nervous system; incurred medical costs of more than $15,000; lost about $5,000 in wages; and sustained pain, suffering, mental anguish and distress, the complaint says.
Allen claims the total amount of her damages are more than Elliott’s insurance company would cover. Therefore, she seeks money from American, which she claims insured the vehicle in which she was riding.
In her two-count complaint, Allen is seeking a judgment of more than $315,000, plus costs and attorney’s fees.
