Family Dollar named in suit involving unspecified slippery substance

A woman claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries after falling at a Family Dollar store, according to recently filed court documents.

Victoria Goldsby filed a lawsuit Nov. 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Family Dollar.

In her complaint, Goldsby claims she was shopping at the store located at 6401 West Main St. in Belleville on Dec. 1, 2010, when she slipped on an unspecified slippery substance.

Because of her fall, Goldsby was prevented from attending to her usual duties, suffered great pain and anguish and required medical attention, according to the complaint.

Family Dollar negligently failed to keep its premises in a safe condition, failed to inspect its store to make sure it was safe, allowed its aisles to remain in a dangerous condition and failed to clean a dangerous condition, the suit states.

In her complaint, Goldsby is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Kenneth B. Beljanski of Brown and Brown in Fairview Heights will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-597.
