Route 203 rear-end accident is subject of suit

A man claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries after a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

Charles R. Tart Sr. filed a lawsuit Nov. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Ronald C. Anderson.

In his complaint, Tart alleges he was driving north on Illinois Route 203 near its intersection with 14th Street in Granite City on June 16, 2011, when he stopped because of traffic conditions. Suddenly, Anderson, who was approaching Tart’s vehicle from behind, failed to yield and struck Tart’s vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to his injuries, Tart lost the use of his vehicle, the suit states.

Tart blames Anderson for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to maintain control of his vehicle, drove too fast and failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision.

In his complaint, Tart is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs

Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa, Hale and Szewczyk in Granite City will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1895.
