Cement worker claims injuries at Wood River facility

A man has filed suit against the Wood River plant where he claims he sustained shoulder, back and neck injuries after he was caught in debris at the work site.

Andrew Mattison claims he was working as a cement finisher for Bechtel Construction Company at defendant ConocoPhillips WRB’s facility in Wood River on Feb. 25, 2011, when he got hung up on a structural steel and other debris while pouring concrete.

In addition to his injuries, Mattison suffered great pain and mental anguish, lost wages and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Oct. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court.

ConocoPhillips negligently failed to see that debris was removed from the job site, allowed work to proceed when it knew that it posed a danger to Mattison and approved work to proceed when it knew there were hazards at the site, the suit states.

In his complaint, Mattison is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

He will be represented by Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1588.
