A construction agency has filed suit against C&R Contracting and the city of East St. Louis, claiming it has not been paid for debris removal services it performed.
Gates Construction and Demolition claims C&R hired it to remove and dump demolition debris from various properties in East St. Louis. East St. Louis had previously contracted with C&R to demolish certain structures, according to the complaint filed Oct. 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
On Nov. 2, 2011, Gates removed debris from 1139 St. Louis Ave. in East St. Louis, but was not paid the $4,695 it charged to perform the service, the suit states.
Again on Nov. 9, 2011, Gates removed debris from 1121 Missouri Ave. in East St. Louis, but again was not paid the $8,032 owed to it, the complaint says.
Finally, on Nov. 21, 2011, Gates claims it removed material from 2209 Market St. for $1,622, but was never paid those funds.
In addition to the three instances, Gates also entered into an agreement with East St. Louis to demolish and remove debris from various sites, according to the complaint. Although it did all of the work requested, Gates claims it was not paid $28,438.88 owed, the suit states.
Gates would like repayment of the money it says it is owed.
