Brass knuckles beating leads to suit against Collinsville bar

The owners of a Collinsville bar are being sued after a man was allegedly beaten with weapons by drunk patrons.

Scott Brown filed a lawsuit Oct. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against the Drift Inn and Jolleen Dougherty, doing business as the Drift Inn. Lonnie and Linda Dougherty, doing business as the Drift Inn, are also named as defendants.
Brown says he was a customer of the bar in the 300 block of East Main Street in November 2011 when he was allegedly beaten up by intoxicated customers. Brown claims the attackers used brass knuckles, nunchucks and other weapons in his assault. He says the attack caused his jaw to break, as well as other serious injuries.
Brown accuses the bar's owners, Lonnie and Linda Dougherty, and the liquor license holder, Jolleen Dougherty, of negligence. He also claims the bar and its owners violated Illinois' Dram Shop Act, making them liable for his injuries.He asks for more than $300,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and court costs.
