Veterans offered free legal advice

The Third Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee and the lawyers of the Madison County Bar Association will be providing two days of free legal appointments to Madison and Bond County Veterans to honor the veterans for their service. Appointments may be made 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 13 in the Madison County Courthouse Law Library.

The Pro Bono Committee and attorneys want to recognize military personnel, according to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder, chair of the Third Circuit Pro Bono Committee. The committee is offering the legal advice clinic appointments near Veteran’s Day to help veterans with questions.

Veterans are encouraged to call the Madison County Law Library to schedule a 30-minute appointment or meet with legal counsel for advice on family and civil cases or have a basic will or other documents drafted. Any veteran from Madison County or Bond County is welcome to call Jaime Stipcak at (618) 296-4772.

Brad Lavite, superintendent of the Veteran’s Assistance Commission in Madison County and a member of the committee, urges veterans to call.

“I encourage all Veterans who may have legal questions to take advantage of this opportunity," he said.
