Granite City chiropractor James T. Phillips denies he sexually assaulted a customer.
Phillips responded Oct. 1 to a lawsuit filed against him by Heather Morales with an answer and affirmative defense.
Morales sued in July in Madison County Circuit Court against Phillips doing business as Phillips Chiropractic.
In her complaint, Morales alleges she was sexually assaulted by Phillips on Sept. 22, 2011.
In his answer, Phillips states that Morales' alleged injuries were the result of some conduct other than his own.
"Defendant states that the alleged injuries sustained by Plaintiffs in this case, if any, were not directly or proximately caused by any act or omission of this Defendant, but were the result of some conduct other than Defendant's conduct, which conduct was the sole proximate cause of Plaintiff's alleged injuries and/or damages," the answer states.
In her lawsuit, Morales seeks a judgment of more than $50,000.
Morgan S. Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office in Granite City represents Morales.
Theodore J. MacDonald Jr. of HeplerBroom represents Phillips.
The case is assigned to Madison County Circuit Judge Dennis Ruth.
