A St. Clair County woman is suing an East St. Louis school district after she allegedly tripped on an exposed electrical cord at a high school football stadium.
Mechelle Fennoy filed a lawsuit Sept. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against East St. Louis School District No. 189.
According to the complaint, Fennoy was attending a function at Clyde Jordan Stadium on the campus of East St. Louis Senior High School in October 2011. Fennoy says she was walking on a concrete walkway between the bleachers and the football field when her foot got caught in an unsecured electrical cord. She claims she was hurt when she fell over the cord.
Fennoy accuses the school district of negligence for failing to maintain a safe place for her and the public to use. She asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court fees.
