Cop and customer at tanning salon settle nude video lawsuit

A lawsuit claiming a woman was illegally videotaped in the nude at a Glen Carbon tanning salon and the alleged perpetrator settled on Oct. 10.

Kimberli Moore filed suit May 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Michael R. Collins for allegedly using his cell phone to videotape her April 3 at the Image Sun Tanning Salon at Edwardsville Crossing. JWKW Enterprise, doing business as Image Sun Tanning Salon, was also named a defendant in the suit.

Collins, 46, was criminally charged April 9 with three counts of unauthorized video recording by the Madison County Sheriff's Department. He resigned April 10 from his position as a senior patrol officer at the Edwardsville Police Department after being employed 15 years by that department.

William L. Wimmer of Wimmer, Stiehl and McCarthy in Belleville represented the plaintiff.

Collins was represented by Benjamin Powell of HeplerBroom in Edwardsville.

The case was assigned to Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla.

Details of the settlement were not immediately available.
