A Collinsville woman is suing her landlord after allegedly slipping on some ice outside her apartment.
Latisha Barefield filed the lawsuit Sept. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Hartmann Rental Properties.
Barefield says she lived in Apt. 2 of the defendant's housing complex in the 500 block of Loop Street. In January, Barefield claims a defective drainage gutter allowed ice to accumulate on the front walkway of her apartment. She alleges she was hurt when she slipped on the icy sidewalk and fell.
Barefield accuses Hartmann Rental Properties of negligence and violating Illinois' Premises Liability Act. She asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court fees.
