Attorney in discrimination case against SIUE requests to withdraw

Short

The attorney for an East Alton man who has filed a discrimination lawsuit against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has requested to withdraw as counsel for his client.

George W. Johnson sued in Madison County on March 2, claiming his superiors at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville failed to properly handle an incident in which two garbage bags were hung on his door to resemble an African-American hung on a noose.

Johnson's attorney Keith Short filed a motion to withdraw Sept. 25, stating "due to changes in the firm and the press of other business, it is difficult for this office to continue as counsel for the complainant."

Short also filed a motion to continue Sept. 25, stating he was appearing at a case management conference in another case in another county and could not attend the hearing held that day.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-273.
