A St. Charles County man claims he sustained serious injuries to his neck, back and right knee after he tripped over flooring left unattended in the middle of a room.
Thomas and Carol Wylie claim Thomas Wylie was working as a carpenter for defendants Bechtel Corporation and working at the ConocoPhillips Refinery in Wood River on March 17, 2011. While carrying a ladder and some scaffolding material, Thomas Wylie tripped over the lip of removable grated flooring, according to the complaint filed Sept. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court.
In addition to his injuries, Thomas Wylie suffered great physical pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement and lost his normal life, the suit states. He also incurred medical costs and lost wages, the complaint says.
Because of her husband's injuries, Carol Wylie lost his care, comfort, protection, society, support, services and consortium, according to the complaint.
The Wylies blame defendants Federal Steel and Erection Co., Bechtel Corporation and ConocoPhillips Company for causing Thomas Wylie's injuries, saying the defendants negligently created a hazardous condition and an unreasonable risk of harm by placing flooring in a pathway, failed to provide an adequate warning of the tripping hazard, failed to position an observer to warn passersby of the flooring and failed to keep the section of flooring in a red-taped area.
In their complaint, the Wylies seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs, interest and other relief the court deems just.
