St. Louis firm adds partner and changes name to McQueen-Awad; Expands to Illinois

ST. LOUIS - Salim E. Awad, a former U.S. Army deep sea diver and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom who is licensed to practice law in Missouri and Illinois, has joined McQueen Awad, LLC as a partner and co-owner at the St. Louis- based law firm originally founded as McQueen-Gadberry, LLC in 2009.

Awad, who speaks fluent Spanish, immigrated to the United States from Bogotá, Colombia, in the late 1990s and joined the U.S. Army, serving seven years on active duty with Army's 74th Dive Team deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and supporting additional missions worldwide. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Awad earned a Juris Doctorate at Saint Louis University School of Law and then served legal clients for a large St. Louis-based law firm before joining McQueen Awad LLC as a partner and co-owner.

At the firm, he represents the interests of start-up businesses, entrepreneurs, global business professionals, immigrants, foreign nationals, and commercial organizations.

McQueen, an experienced attorney better known as Jasha, is owner and attorney of the St. Louis-based law firm, McQueen Awad LLC. A second generation immigrant fluent in Spanish, her practice areas focus on general corporate law, immigration law and international law.

Jasha provides a full range of legal services to entrepreneurs, start-ups, globally minded business professionals, immigrants, foreigners, and businesses of various sizes and types. She has extensive experience from large and prestigious law firms in St. Louis.

Now an established entrepreneur, she further understands the risks and frustrations associated with starting and growing a business. Prior to graduating cum laude with a law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law, she served as a captain in the U.S. Army.

Jasha earned a master's degree in human resource management from Troy State University and an undergraduate degree in communications magna cum laude from the University of Tampa.

Licensed to practice in Missouri and Illinois, Jasha is a member of the Missouri Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and a member of the Missouri Hispanic Business Trade and Culture Commission. In addition, she served as an advisor for KETC Channel Nine/PBS immigration documentary series Homeland that was broadcast starting in late 2011. Frequently interviewed by media, Jasha received the St. Louis Business Journal's "40 under 40" award in 2007 and was profiled by the Business Journal as a "St. Louis Character" in 2010.
