Ravanelli's sued by customer who trips on parking lot speed bump

A man has filed suit against the restaurant where he claims he tripped and fell on a speed bump in the parking lot.

Joseph Schreiber claims he was visiting defendant Ravanelli's Restaurant in American Village Shopping Center in Granite City on Jan. 20 when the incident occurred.

"Plaintiff Joseph Schreiber had parked his vehicle in the parking lot and was walking toward the front door of the restaurant when he tripped/slipped and fell on the speed bump," the suit filed Aug. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court states.

Because of his fall, Schreiber sustained injuries to his right hip, experienced pain and suffering, lost his normal life, suffered disability and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

In addition to Ravanelli's, Schreiber names Central Plaza Partnership as a defendant, saying it owned the parking lot where he fell.

The defendants negligently designed the parking lot and the speed bump, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Schreiber seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

James E. Gorman of Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld and Dawson in Edwardsville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1366.
