Sears sued over shopper's escalator injury

A St. Clair County woman says she was hurt on an escalator at a Fairview Heights Sears store.

Mary Zajac filed a lawsuit Aug. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Sears Holding Company.

Zajac says she was shopping at the St. Clair Square Sears in August 2010 when she was allegedly hurt while riding the escalator. She accuses the company of negligence for allowing a dangerous condition to exist on its equipment.

Zajac asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court costs.

She is represented by attorney Blake G. Meinders of Belleville.
