Aviston Lumber shopper says heavy insulation packet hit head

A St. Clair County man says he was hurt when an employee stocking shelves dropped heavy insulation on the customer's head.

Steven Kehrer filed a lawsuit Aug. 3 against Aviston Lumber Company in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the petition, Kehrer was shopping at the New Baden Aviston Lumber Co. in April 2011 when an employee stocking merchandise threw a heavy packet of insulation. Kehrer says the insulation hit him in the head, causing a serious injury. He accuses the company of negligence for allegedly not warning customers to avoid the area where large products were being put on shelves and at risk of falling.

Kehrer asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and costs of the lawsuit.

He is represented by attorney Bruce R. Cook of Belleville.
