A St. Clair County man has filed suit against the driver who he claims struck his vehicle while attempting to make a left-hand turn.

Adam Clark claims he was driving north on North Sixth Street in Mascoutah on Oct. 4, 2010, when defendant Jonika C. Sawyer, who was driving south on North Sixth Street, attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of his vehicle. Instead, she struck his vehicle, according to the complaint filed July 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Clark sustained injuries to his right shoulder, neck and back; experienced pain and suffering; and incurred medical costs of more than $34,000, the suit states.

Sawyer negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a lookout to the front and sides, failed to warn of her upcoming approach and collided with Clark's vehicle, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Sawyer is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Andrew G. Toennies of Lashly and Baer in St. Louis.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-370.
