Route 157 rear-end accident in Edwardsville leads to suit

Foster

A woman claims she experienced numerous injuries after a driver failed to control his speed and slammed into the rear of the vehicle in which she rode.

Darlene McDonald filed a lawsuit July 25 in Madison County Circuit Court against Calvin May.

In her complaint, McDonald alleges she rode in a vehicle traveling south on State Route 157 in Edwardsville on Jan. 8, 2011, when the vehicle slowed to make a right-hand turn onto Sunset Hills Boulevard. Suddenly, May, who drove in the same direction, failed to control his speed and crashed into the back of McDonald's vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to her injuries, McDonald suffered pain and anguish, incurred medical costs and lost wages, the suit states.

McDonald blames May for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to brake to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of him, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision and failed to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in which McDonald was riding.

In her complaint, McDonald seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Ronald J. Foster Jr. of Schoen, Walton, Telken and Foster in East St. Louis will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1127.
