Piasa Winery sued over woman's encounter with liquid on stairs

Falb

A woman has filed suit against the winery where she claims she fell on a liquid spilled on stairs.

Maranda A. Causey claims she was visiting defendant Piasa Winery in Grafton on May 6 when she encountered liquid on some stairs she was descending. Causey slipped on the liquid, causing her to fall down the stairs, according to the complaint filed July 25 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of her fall, Causey experienced pain and suffering, endured broken bones, lost her normal life and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

She blames Piasa for causing her fall, saying it negligently failed to warn her that the stairs were wet, failed to clean the liquid before customers used the step, caused liquid to be spilled on the step and failed to have adequate lighting.

In her complaint, Causey is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Thomas O. Falb of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1122.
