East St. Louis man says he was struck by car on sidewalk

An East St. Louis man allegedly hit by a car while standing in his driveway is suing the woman he says was behind the wheel.

Keith Harris filed a lawsuit against Felicia P. Edison on July 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Harris says the alleged incident happened in November 2010 while he was standing on the sidewalk near the driveway of his home at 1808 Central Avenue in East St. Louis. He says Edison, who was driving her car down Central Avenue, hit him with her vehicle. Harris says the impact caused serious injuries to his extremities.

Harris accuses Edison of negligence for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian on a sidewalk, failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, speeding and failing to properly apply her brake. As a result of the alleged negligence, Harris says he has suffered great physical pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement. He claims he has paid extensive medical expenses and will suffer a reduced earning capacity in the future.

Harris seeks more than $50,000 in damages. Attorney Matthew J. Marlen of Belleville represents him.
