Alton intersection accident causes injuries, suit claims

Darr

A woman claims she sustained injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way at an intersection and struck her vehicle.

Ashley Asuquo filed a lawsuit July 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dong Chun Cai.

In her complaint, Asuquo claims she drove a 1993 Ford Escort east on Hillcrest at its intersection with Rixon in Alton on Aug. 17, 2010, at about 3:30 p.m. when Cai, who drove south on Rixon, struck her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Asuquo incurred medical costs and was prevented from attending to her normal duties, according to the complaint.

She blames Cai for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control over his vehicle, failed to brake and failed to yield the right-of-way.

In her complaint, Asuquo is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1041.
